Foot Problems Keeping You Down? Find Helpful Tips Here

The condition of your feet can reveal much about your health. If the skin on your feet is dry, flaky and scaly, you're probably hydrated and need to drink more water. I didn't know this until I spoke to my podiatrist last month about my painful foot problem. Instead of drinking more water during the day, I simply slathered creams all over my feet. The creams only moisturized the top layer of my feet and not the skin cells beneath it. I actually learned quite a bit about how to protect my feet by eating and drinking healthier. I want to share this knowledge with you through my blog. You learn how to protect your feet by making healthier choices in your life, as well as tips on when to see a podiatrist and why. Good luck and thanks for stopping by.

Why Do Your Feet Hurt When Running And What Can You Do?

When you're running and your feet begin to hurt, it may be due to a number of reasons. Your feet may hurt you enough that you aren't able to run because you need to rest them. They also may need time to heal from injury from running as well. If your feet are hurting you, there are things you can change to help prevent this from happening to you again. Read on for a few helpful tips.

Wear Breathable Socks

If your feet are hurting because you have athlete's foot, you should switch to breathable socks. Stop wearing thick socks, or socks that aren't wicking the sweat from your feet and leaving your feet soaking wet. This can lead to your athlete's foot. Your feet need to remain dry to prevent athlete's foot. The excess moisture can also lead to movement and friction against your feet, and when this happens, you could also end up with blisters. Switch out your socks to keep your feet dry.

Change Your Shoes

Change your shoes to ones that actually fit your feet and that don't allow for friction or leave you in pain. If your feet are in pain, it may be because your shoes aren't the proper fit, or they may not offer the right amount of support. Change your shoes to a good quality running shoe that offers plenty of support and that is also breathable. Your shoes should also fit your feet so they don't slide and aren't too tight, both of which can leave you with blisters.

Adjust Your Gait

How you run may be what is causing your feet to hurt. You may not be planting your feet firmly on the ground, or your feet may be turning in or out. Changing your gait may help prevent your foot pain, but this may be something you need help with. You may need some physical therapy or help from your podiatrist. You need to be sure your back is straight when you run, your arms are at your sides and your shoulders and hips are all in alignment. You should also be planting your feet firmly on the ground when your feet hit the ground, rolling your foot onto the toes, and pressing off the pavement firmly

If you are experiencing pain in your feet when you run, you need to seek help from a podiatrist. You may have foot issues that only a podiatrist can help treat for you.
